Immersion Heater Controller

Immersion heater controllers are intelligent devices that automatically convert energy generated by existing PV panels into hot water, by diverting any excess solar electricity into the immersion heater before it’s exported to the national grid.

We used to recommend these when export tariff rates where lower than the price of gas etc - however as most export rates are typically 15p/kWh and gas is around 7p/kWh if you offset a kWh of gas to with a kWh of surplus solar then you are potentially losing 8p everytime you use a kWh to do this, as opposed to selling it back to your energy company. This may differ slightly if you are on oil as this price can fluctuate greatly so it may offer you a small saving, althought this needs to be by quite a bit as you have the initial cost of purchasing and installing the device to cover before you break-even on your inveestment in one.
